St. John's Community Church
The mission of St. John's Community Church is to be a vital community church. In fulfilling its mission, St. Joh's Community church is committed to opening its doors to individuals and groups desiring to use the facility of ecumenical services or events that promote spiritual renewal and enrichment of community life.
Organized in 1867 by missionary priests, this church was built in 1889. At that time, the town of Laporte had a population of 1,000 and the church held services throughout the year. It was originally a congregation of the Episcopal Diocese of Central Pennsylvania. After it was closed by the diocese, it was incorporated in 1998 as a community church, governed by a board of directors composed of local year-round and seasonal residents.
